FormaFantasma interviewed by Nodus

Nodus collaborates with the world’s most famous designers. These creatives are famous for their style and the continuous innovation they bring with their ideas. Two of these artists are Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, creators of Studio FormaFantasma. We interviewed him. Let’s get to know him better and find out what his ideas on design are and what he envisages  for the future.

How would you define the essence or primary characteristics of your work? Every designer has their own style, their own distinctive features… what are yours?
Our work, if we had to define it in a few words, is processual and contextual.

What are the people or stories that have most influenced you in your work?
So many and it’s impossible to name them all. But if we had to name the most important ones, it’s obvious that in our case we are the two of us, one an influence for the other. Our work is a continuous conversation between us.

How does the cultural aspect related to your country and traditions enter into your projects?
Often in our work, the understanding of the historical evolution of a given material, technique or social condition influences us in a profound way. I believe that the link between past and future is a condition that certainly ties us to our country of origin.

How do you see the future and what do you think will be the new trends in design?
Trends don’t interest us, there are no trends that last over time. The needs are much more important. The need for an ecological evolution of design is the most important of all.

What do you think about sustainability today? Do you think it is a basic element of design or an added value?
See above.  🙂

How important and how often is the social aspect present in your projects?
It is, but not in all work. We would say that in our work there is often an awareness of the ethical and political implications of deign.

Is design more emotion, more rationality/functionality, or is there no prevalence of either aspect?
There is no prevalence. We could say that those listed are all functions that objects are called to perform.

What do you think about the role of textiles in design?
It is the sensitive, gentle part of interiors. It is often defined as feminine. For this reason, as in society, it is often undervalued.

To conclude, an aphorism or a phrase that represents you.
Looking back to look forward.
