How would you define the essence or primary characteristics of your work? Every designer has his own style, his own distinctive features... What are yours?
Fluid.

 

What are the people or stories that have most influenced you in your career?
Wright, Sottsass, Loewy, Papanek.

 

How does the culture of your country and its traditions enter into your projects?
I identify Italian culture as a basic structure linked to the history and primordial culture of the western world. Both in architecture and in craft and artistic production.

 

How do you see the future and what do you think will be the new trends in design?
Organic materials. Circular design. Sustainability. Beauty.

 

What do you think about sustainability today? Do you think it is a basic element of design, or an added value?
It is basic.

 

How important and how often is the social aspect in your projects?
I have a broad vision of sociality. My idea is to transfer well-being and quality to all areas of society. You usually start with an élite and then develop the concepts obtained so that everyone benefits. They are two aspects of the same chain that should both be preserved.

 

Is design more emotion, more rationality/functionality, or both in equal measure?
It depends on the days and themes.

 

What do you think about the role of textiles in design?
Textiles are the primordial design, the first real industrial product which today can be the cornerstone of a new design of electronic and made-to-measure craftsmen.

 

To conclude, an aphorism or a phrase that represents you.
Design is synthesis, but those who make essential design without having mastered the baroque monkey an image of essentiality and are not masters of profound synthesis.
