Rugs textures: what choices should be made according to the individual furnishing project?

Different rugs textures can satisfy various furnishing needs. Indeed, there are textures that are more suitable for those seeking functional solutions and others that have more decorative power.

Finding the right texture for a textile means striking a balance between aesthetics and practicality and being able to create a cosy and well-cared-for ambience.

Why is it important to evaluate rugs textures?

Rugs textures are a factor that greatly influences not only its appearance, but also the comfort level of the product, its durability and, in general, the user experience. For these reasons, evaluating and analysing the particular texture that characterises the item is a fundamental step to ensure that it is a high quality piece and that it meets your needs.

A specific texture may allow a carpet to be more or less soft underfoot, more or less resistant to wear and tear, and will greatly influence the way the artefact will relate to the other elements of the furniture.

The choice of texture should always be made with the desired result in mind. In a living room or bedroom, for example, you may decide to furnish with a carpet with a soft and fluffy texture that will create a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. In passageways, such as corridors and entrances, on the other hand, it is preferable to opt for a rug with a more compact texture, because it is less subject to wear and tear and easier to clean.

It should also be considered that rugs textures can radically change the way a space looks. Here again, let’s take a few examples: a long pile carpet adds volume and warmth to the room, while a short pile or flat pile carpet can give the room a more modern and minimalist look.

What are the main rugs textures?

Considering the impact that rugs textures have on the final result, it is easy to see that the moment of choosing a design is one of the most important and delicate moments when buying a carpet. The main textures from which one can choose include flat-pile, short-pile, long-pile and curly-pile carpets. Each of these options has unique characteristics and advantages, which one must be aware of and consider. Especially in the case of a custom-made carpet .

For example, flat-weave carpets have a very fine structure and a smooth, compact surface. They are the ideal type of artefact for those looking for a practical and easy-to-clean solution. Such a texture is best for carpets intended for high-traffic areas such as entrances and kitchens.

Short pile carpets, on the other hand, offer an excellent compromise between comfort and durability. They are soft to the touch and have a low thickness, which makes them easy to maintain and ideal for living rooms or dining rooms. In these areas of the home, the benefits of this texture can be exploited by either placing the carpet under furniture or placing it in the centre of the room.

What more can be said about rugs textures? It can be observed that long-pile textures are the perfect choice if you are looking for a soft and warm product. Besides being soft and enveloping, this type also gives the product a luxurious look. Carpets of this kind are especially ideal for completing the furnishings of bedrooms and the relaxation area of the home.

A further texture to consider is that of curly pile carpets. Although they have some points in common with short-pile models, unlike the latter, curly-pile carpets have a more structured, almost three-dimensional surface. This texture is characterised by the fact that it adds an interesting and unusual visual element, but is also appreciated because it makes the individual item very durable and masks stains and dirt well.

Useful tips for choosing rugs textures

Before you get to the point of choosing the right texture for your carpet, you need to very carefully analyse the environment in which it will be placed. In addition to understanding what the characteristics of the room are, you also need to understand the intended use of the specific piece.

It is then important to consider the particular needs that the carpet has to fulfil and to define priorities. Some examples? A long pile carpet, for example, offers good thermal and acoustic insulation, but may not be the best in high-traffic rooms. On the other hand, a flat-weave piece is a practical furnishing solution, but not very suitable if you need stability.

When choosing rugs textures, the materials used to create the specific piece must also be taken into account. Some fibres, such as wool or cotton, are perfect for long pile carpets because they have a natural softness and durability. On the other hand, other materials, such as hemp or sisal, are more suitable for flat-weave or short-pile carpets, as they provide more practicality and compactness.
